Marco Gelli, Founder The "BOTTEGA D'ARTE", founded by Marco Gelli and his wife Giuliana, was created in 1978 in the heart of Florence, where in the past, master craftsmen taught the art of furniture restoration. Marco was born in Florence and was brought up in Oltrarno (the south bank of the Arno), the
most ancient neighbourhood of Florence.  He lived amongst the craftsmen's workshops in Santo Spirito.  At the age of 14 Marco entered one of these workshops as an apprentice and began the long process of learning his art in the school of MASTER CRAFTSMEN.

The BOTTEGA D'ARTE is dedicated to continue the decoration of wood furniture in the same way as the master craftsmen who passed on the ancient SECRETS and METHODS of their handicraft to Marco.  The BOTTEGA D'ARTE remains a craftsman's workshop with the passing of time, where the tradition is continuing with Marco's son, SIMONE.  In this way, we seek to guarantee, forever and at all costs, the production of UNIQUE and ORIGINAL objects.

The BOTTEGA D'ARTE continues to use the most ancient Florentine techniques in the decorating of furniture. We offer you the mastery of our expert craftsmen, carvers, painters and finishers. Each of them has had many years of experience in a city where the aesthetic standards are established by the beauty of the Renaissance. Our craftsmen work with traditional methods: they carve wood, apply gesso and egg white base, and work with natural pigments, shellac, waxes, glues and terrae.  Each piece produced is a unique work of art, skillfully painted by hand and finished
with great creativity and care for tradition.

Our furniture and accessories are decorated with paints in rich colours, are elaborated by details in gold and silver leaf, and then skillfully given antique effects. Following the tradition of
cabinet-makers of the Florentine noble families, we succeed in producing unique pieces which will add charm and elegance to your home.  You will want to pass on these pieces as part of your valued legacy.
